All the intelligence you need to enter the UK medical cannabis market, and to make the most of it once you’re in.

Our 44-page report follows what patients actually received — volume, value, potency, price and who supplied it — read line by line from the NHSBSA’s own dispensing records. It’s free.

• The problem

A patient estimate can’t tell you what was dispensed. The dispensing record can.

You can find guesses at how many people in the UK take medical cannabis. What you won’t find in them is what those patients received, at what strength and price, or who supplied it. The report reads the answer from 394,090 NHSBSA dispensing records, resolves every line to a product, and says plainly that the record covers England only and undercounts the UK market.

Every cut is re-run on a hold-out. Importer and distributor history failed that test, so the report leaves it out.

• What the report shows

The market doubled every year, and five brand groups now share what one used to hold.

Five numbers the report opens with, all read from England’s dispensing record, which undercounts the UK market. Below them, extracts from each chapter.

• Questions

What people ask us about the UK report.

Is the report free?
Yes. Leave your work email and we send the full 44-page PDF straight to your inbox.
Where does the data come from?
From the NHSBSA’s own dispensing records, obtained through two freedom-of-information releases (FOI_03941 and FOI-03965) covering private prescriptions for unlicensed cannabis-based medicines dispensed in England from January 2019 to February 2026. Import volumes come from Home Office FOIs, prices from dated formulary snapshots and clinic traffic from SimilarWeb estimates we compile every month.
Does it cover the whole UK?
No, and we say so on every page. The release covers England only, and dispensing submissions are manual, so some are missing — the record undershoots the UK market, probably by a wide margin. Treat every figure as a floor: adding 20–25% to any level is a conservative way to reach a total-UK view. Shares and trends are not affected.
Why count items rather than patients?
Because items are what the record actually contains. A prescription item is one product dispensed once — a 10 g jar or a single vape cartridge. Patient counts in the report come from Prohibition Partners and are attributed as such.
Why does the report stop at 2025?
January and February 2026 are still being filled in by late submissions, so reading them now would understate the market. The report reads 2026 through the formulary, list prices and imports instead, and the dispensing series updates in Decide as the records land.
What is the difference between the report and Decide?
The report is a snapshot, dated October 2026. Decide is where the same data keeps moving — every FOI release, formulary snapshot and clinic month as it arrives, alongside the same reconciled data for more than 120 other markets.
